Does Laser Tattoo Removal hurt?

At FADE, we only use the PicoSure® Pro Laser, meaning that you are receiving the best, fastest, and most advanced Laser Tattoo Removal technology available. The sensation of the laser light on skin is uncomfortable and may feel like a slight pinprick or the sensation of heat. Some people find feeling similar to that of getting a tattoo. The sensation may last for a few hours.

Before your treatment, your clinician will do a complete assessment of your tattoo, and your skin type. This will allow them to adjust the Laser settings to the most appropriate level for you. Before any treatment, they will carry out a patch test to help determine the most effective treatment settings, and this also allows you to see what the sensation is like, before starting your treatment.

Treatments with PicoSure® Pro are fast - typically ten minutes - and your clinician will use cool air throughout your treatment to make you more comfortable.

After your treatment, it’s usual to see a slight ‘frosting’ over the tattoo, which will fade naturally, usually within an hour. Tattoos may blister and have pinpoint bleeding for a few days - this is normal, and is a result of the PressureWave technology behind PicoSure® Pro - it is not a result of heat. Our advice is to treat the area delicately following treatment - apply Aloe Vera or cool the area with cold gel packs, cool gel, or cool air, or take a painkiller such as Paracetamol if required.

Wash the treated area gently with soap and water, and don’t soak, swim or use hot tubs or whirlpools until the area is completely healed. We also advise that you take care to avoid sun exposure or sun beds. If sun exposure is unavoidable, apply SPF 30+ to protect exposed, treated areas. Avoid shaving until the area is back to normal.

We’re Ireland's only dedicated Laser Tattoo Removal clinic, and we take your safety & comfort seriously, which is why we only use the PicoSure® Pro Laser. This technology delivers laser energy that specifically targets tattoo ink, without harming the surrounding tissue. Unfortunately, the treatments are not 100% painless, but your clinician will do everything possible to make your treatments as fast, effective and comfortable as possible.
